Bridging The Lion and the Mouse’s embrace of Forest School and Playwork principles with sensory and process-based art-making, Mess Club allows children to explore materials and make art through messy play. Through open-ended exploration and collaborative art-making with natural and conventional art materials, children will be free to make a mess and respond to the world around them. Activities include making sculptures with ice, snow, and mud outside and playing with paint spills and clay moulding. All the while, they will learn more about their environment and work on their sensory development!
Mess Club will be facilitated by our playworker Gabrielle Doiron. Before joining The Lion and the Mouse, she coordinated community-engaged, site-responsive art projects. She has also worked as an art educator, delivering art workshops to children and adults of all ages. Gabi believes in the beauty and impact of messy play and finds this to be the best way to experiment with art-making!
In keeping with Forest School principles and because of the nature of the program, Mess Club will be meeting outside. In the event of extreme weather, the program will take place indoors. The indoor location for each program is indicated in italics.
